Complianz is one of the most popular cookie consent plugins for WordPress. It shows your visitors a cookie banner and stops tracking scripts from running until they say yes.
Converly works with Complianz, so visitors who accept marketing cookies are tracked as normal and visitors who decline aren't tracked at all. Everything below works on the free version of Complianz.
To set it up, follow the instructions below:
Installed Converly through Google Tag Manager?
Follow the Google Tag Manager guide instead. The steps below are for sites where the Converly code is pasted straight into the website.
Step 1: Open the Script Center
The first step is to open the part of Complianz that controls which scripts it holds back. In your WordPress admin, go to Complianz, then Integrations, then Script Center.
You don't need to move your Converly code. Leave it wherever you pasted it (your theme's header code box or a header code plugin), and Complianz will find it there.
Step 2: Tell Complianz to block Converly
The next step is to add Converly to the list of scripts Complianz blocks. In the Block a script, iframe or plugin section, add a new entry and fill it in like this:
- Name: Converly
- URLs that should be blocked:
js.converly.io - Category: Marketing
Leave the placeholder option switched off, since Converly doesn't show anything on the page. Then save your changes.
You might wonder why you need to do this if Complianz blocks scripts automatically. Complianz only blocks scripts from services it already knows about, and Converly isn't on its list yet. Adding it here takes care of that.
Step 3: Test it works
That's it! The final step is to test it, and it only takes a couple of minutes.
First, open a new incognito window (or private window) and go to your website. When the cookie banner appears, decline marketing cookies. Then submit a test entry through one of your forms.
Now open the Activity page in Converly. The test entry should NOT appear there, because Converly never ran for that visitor.
Next, close that window, open another new incognito window, and go to your website again. This time accept marketing cookies (or click accept all), then submit another test entry. Head back to the Activity page, and this time the test conversion should show up within a moment.
If both of those happen, your cookie banner is holding Converly back properly.
