Osano is a cookie consent tool that shows your visitors a cookie banner and stops tracking scripts from running until they say yes.
Converly works with Osano, so visitors who accept marketing cookies are tracked as normal and visitors who decline aren't tracked at all.
To set it up, follow the instructions below:
Installed Converly through Google Tag Manager?
Follow the Google Tag Manager guide instead. The steps below are for sites where the Converly code is pasted straight into the website.
Step 1: Open your script rules
The first step is to open the part of Osano that decides which category each script belongs to. In Osano, go to Consent Manager, open the Scripts tab, then the Rules tab.
You don't need to move your Converly code. Leave it wherever you pasted it.
Step 2: Add a rule for Converly
The next step is to add a rule that puts Converly in the Marketing category. Click the purple + button and fill it in like this:
- Rule type: Path Match
- URL:
https://js.converly.io/ - Category: Marketing
Then click Save and Publish. It can take up to 15 minutes for the change to go live on your site.
Important: Don't skip this step, even if Osano has already spotted Converly on your site. If your Osano setup is in its default "Permissive" mode, any script that hasn't been given a category is allowed to run for everyone, whether they accepted cookies or not.
Step 3: Test it works
That's it! The final step is to test it, and it only takes a couple of minutes.
First, open a new incognito window (or private window) and go to your website. When the cookie banner appears, decline marketing cookies. Then submit a test entry through one of your forms.
Now open the Activity page in Converly. The test entry should NOT appear there, because Converly never ran for that visitor.
Next, close that window, open another new incognito window, and go to your website again. This time accept marketing cookies (or click accept all), then submit another test entry. Head back to the Activity page, and this time the test conversion should show up within a moment.
If both of those happen, your cookie banner is holding Converly back properly. If Converly still tracks the visitor who declined, wait 15 minutes for Osano to publish the change and try again.
